Using the Applications Platform Connector on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SP2

Introduction

Running the Applications Platform Connector on a Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2008 SP2 machine requires extra configuration to complete the connection to Applications Platform.

Problem

You are running BPA Platform 2018 Update 1 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2008 SP2 machine.

New and existing connections to Applications Platform (using the Applications Platform Connector ) fail with “Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS with authority ‘<url>’.”

Resolution

The Applications Platform Connector included with BPA Platform 2018 Update 1 has been updated to include support for TLS 1.2, which is used by Applications Platform.

To ensure both can communicate correctly, do the following:

  • Ensure the machine hosting the Applications Platform Connector is fully up-to-date with Windows updates
  • You must enable TLS 1.2 on the machine hosting the Applications Platform Connector — refer to the Microsoft Support article.
