Prerequisites

Before adding a Run Microsoft Reporting ServicesClosedThe Run Microsoft Reporting Services tool automates the running of Microsoft Reporting Services (MSRS) reports. task step, ensure you have met the following:

Microsoft System CLR Types

The Run Microsoft Reporting Services tool requires Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2017. This is irrespective of the version of SQL Server you have installed and also of the type of Microsoft Reporting Services (MSRS) mode use by the tool. Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2017 is backwards compatible to SQL Server 2008 and can run alongside any other CLR types you may have installed on the BPA Platform computer.

Use the ConfiguratorClosedYou use the Configurator to install third-party software that may be required by available tools. Connection to required agents are also configured here. Note that you can only launch the Configurator if logged into the machine with Administrator rights. to install the CLR types if you have not already done so.

Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable

The Run Microsoft Reporting Services tool requires the Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable version 2017 or higher to display all MSRS reports. This is irrespective of the version of SQL Server you have installed and also of the type of Microsoft Reporting Services (MSRS) mode use by the tool. Version 2017 is backwards compatible to SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 and can run alongside any other report viewer you may have installed on the BPA Platform computer.

Use the Configurator to install the redistributables if you have not already done so.

(Optional) Connecting to a Microsoft Report Server

You can configure a connection to a Microsoft Report Server where the report is hosted, before adding a Run Microsoft Reporting Services task step. If using a report template local to this installation of BPA Platform, this stage can be skipped. You do this in the Run Microsoft Reporting Services Global Configuration interface. You open this interface from the resources tree — expand System > Tools > and double-click Run Microsoft Reporting Services in the items list.

  1. Click Add to create a new connection.
  2. In the General tab, Name your connection and point to the report server.
  3. Go to the Security tab and provide the credentials for the report server.
  4. At this stage, you can skip the configuration in the Advanced tab. When connecting to a remote Report Server, you can only output reports in formats supported by that server so this configuration in unnecessary.
  5. Click OK.

Adding a New Task Step

To add a new Run Microsoft Reporting Services step to an existing task, do the following:

  1. Open the relevant task (if creating a new task, see How to Create a Basic Task).
  2. Either:
Click and drag the Run Microsoft Reporting Services icon from the Task Browser to the task Design area.
From the task's Design tab, right-click on empty space and select New > Format > Run Microsoft Reporting Services.
  1. In the General tab, Name your task step and, if required, choose your data source for the report.
  2. Go to the Report tab and select and configure the report template for this task step.
  3. Go to the Mapping tab and map the input source elements to the required elements in the report template.
  4. Go to the Options tab and select the relevant error handling options for this task step.

  5. Click  to save the task step.
